The civil war in El Salvador lasted from approximately 1979 until 1992. This long period of strife lead to many natives moving elsewhere. Coffee and cotton are well-known exports, but another factor that is overlooked is the sheer volume of human labor that is exported by the tiny nation. Currently over 1.5 million Salvadoreans live in the US, and send money to their relatives. Before you transfer money it is best to consult with your family members to decide what the best method of receiving is for them.
